The defect of conventional breaker point ignition system

The defects of conventional breaker point ignition system
Conventional breaker point
ignition system relies on the primary current of the ignition coil which turned on and off by the contact of the breaker, lead to produce the secondary high voltage of the ignition coil. The structural form and working mode have the following deficiencies.

1.Poor working reliability
Conventional breaker point ignition system reduces the spark of contact by means of parallel circuit capacitor between contacts, but it still has spark in contact point during operation, so that the contact is easy to be ablated, oxidation, resulting in bad contact and ignition performance degradation or no ignition. Therefore, the reliability of Conventional breaker point ignition system is very poor, and the failure rate of the breaker is very high, which affects the normal use of the car.
2.The highest secondary voltage is unstable
According to the working characteristics of conventional breaker point ignition system, the maximum secondary voltage is very unstable when the engine speed changes at very low or high speeds. Conventional breaker point ignition system has an obvious drop in the maximum secondary voltage, which makes starting performance the engine is poor at low speed, while it is easy to misfire at high speed.

3.Minimum Ignition Energy
Since the increase of primary current will increase the spark when contact point is off, result in the ignition system will not work normally , thus conventional breaker point ignition system cannot increase the ignition energy by increasing the primary current (generally primary current is limited to 5A)).Because the ignition energy of the ignition system is small, it will inevitably affect its ignition rate, especially cannot adapt to high compression ratio and hybrid engine.
4.Sensitive to spark plug carbon deposition
When the breaker contact point is opened, the pulse arcs discharge between the contacts of the breaker will affect the rate of voltage rise between the electrodes of spark plugs. In the process of secondary voltage rise, there is a relatively large amount of electric leakage through fouled spark plugs. Therefore, it will be more obvious that fouled spark plugs lead to drop in the maximum voltage.
5.Radio interference
The arc discharge between the contacts of the breaker will produce high frequency shock wave, which will cause radiation interference to the radio around. To sum up, conventional breaker point ignition system has minimum ignition energy and working reliability due to its structure. resulting in high fuel consumption of the engine, serious exhaust pollution. Therefore, conventional breaker point ignition system cannot adapt to the modern car. Requirements for car development. The electronic ignition system uses a transistor to control the primary current of the ignition coil, thus conventional breaker point ignition system can be avoided.
